Olympic gold medalist Valarie Allman is a discus thrower from the United States. She has broken the American record in the event and has represented her country at both the Olympic Games and World Championships.
Allman began her athletic career as a track and field athlete, but soon found her niche in the discus throw. She won her first national championship in 2007. In 2012, she competed at the London Olympics, where she finished 12th. At the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, she won a bronze medal. This made her the first American woman to medal in the discus throw at a major international meet. Allman went on to represent her country at the 2017 Summer Universiade, where she won a silver medal, and the 2017 World Championships, where she did not qualify for the final. She was the 2018 National Champion. Also, she earned bronze at the 2018 Athletics World Cup and silver at the 2018 NACAC Championships.
Allman won the gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics. At the 2022 World Athletics Championships, she won a bronze medal, which made her the first American woman to win a world championship medal in the discus throw. At the Triton Invitational in La Jolla on 8 April 2022, Allman threw 71.46 m (234 ft 5+1⁄4 in), which was the 15th farthest throw in history and the farthest in almost 30 years. She trains under Coach Zebulon Sion at the University of Texas, where she is a volunteer assistant. She was sponsored by Oiselle through 2020, as well as the New York Athletic Club, before being sponsored by Asics.
