Venus Ebony Starr Williams is a former number one ranked professional female tennis player who has been at the top of her game throughout her long career. Along with her sister Serena, the Williams sisters have dominated world tennis for many years and between them have won every title going. Having won seven Grand Slam singles titles, Venus is twelfth on the all-time list of female stars to have won Grand Slams. The only active player to have won more is her sister Serena. It was in 2002 that Venus first hit the number one spot in the world rankings, making her the first black woman to have ever done so.
Venus is a strong and powerful player who is widely regarded to have really changed the game and brought a new dimension to it. As such it is often said that she is one of the greatest players to have ever played the game of tennis. Overall, Venus has won 22 Grand Slam titles, seven of which were singles and thirteen of which are doubles along with her sister. She has won Wimbledon five times and is one of only five women in the open era to win 200 or more main draw Grand Slam singles matches. Venus has also seen plenty of Olympic success, picking up a number of golds, and in fact won the gold in both the singles and doubles tournament in the same year, making her the only woman to do so. Few tennis players have reached the heights of Venus.
