Viktor Mayer-Schönberger began his academic journey building an extensive portfolio focused on the network economy, establishing himself as a prominent Austrian academic. After completing his early professional steps, he spent ten years on the faculty of Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, where he refined his research into digital systems and information governance.
He currently serves as Professor of Internet Governance and Regulation at the Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford. Beyond his university commitments, he has authored more than a hundred articles and book chapters, while also contributing his expertise as a member of Germany’s Digital Council to advise Angela Merkel and her cabinet.
His written works have received significant international recognition. He authored the acclaimed book “Delete: The Virtue of Forgetting in the Digital Age,” which earned the 2010 Marshall McLuhan Award for Outstanding Book and the 2010 Don K. Price Award for Best Book in Science and Technology Politics. Additionally, he co-authored “Big Data: A Revolution That Will Transform How We Live, Work, and Think.”
