Former English football player Vince Bartram played as goalkeeper for teams such as Arsenal, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Blackpool and Cheltenham Town during the course of his career. He is now the goalkeeping coach at Premier League side Southampton.
Originally from Birmingham, Bartram’s first team was Wolverhampton Wanderers when they signed him in 1985. He made his debut in 1986, at the club’s first ever game in fourth tier English football. While he was still officially signed to the Wolverhampton Wanderers, he went on loan to various other clubs, including Blackpool, Cheltenham Town and West Bromwich Albion. He moved to Bournemouth in 1991, and played 132 league games for the club before making the move to the Premier League by signing for Arsenal in 1994 for £250,000. Despite being a part of the team, he only played 11 league games for the club as he spent most of his Highbury career as David Seaman’s understudy. However, he spent time on loan to Huddersfield Town during 1997 and moved permanently to Gillingham in 1998. Bartram was the first choice goalkeeper for the entirety of his time there, helping them to reach the Division Two final in his first season in the team. After over 200 appearances for the club, he retired in 2004 with a wrist injury. Bartram is now a Level 3 FA Coach and the Goalkeeping Manger at Southampton academy.
