Scott Satterfield

Scott Satterfield is a distinguished American college football coach and former player, recognized for his strategic acumen and leadership in transitioning collegiate programs to higher levels of competition. After leading Appalachian State University through a successful transition from FCS to FBS, Scott Satterfield established himself as a distinguished college football coach, securing three Sun Belt Conference championships and guiding his teams to four bowl appearances with three wins. Satterfield’s collegiate football career began as a quarterback at Appalachian State University from 1991 to 1996, where he started 27 games between 1992 and 1995. He graduated in 1996 with a degree in physical education.

In 2018, he was recognized as the Sun Belt Coach of the Year. He also holds the distinction of being the first coach to lead a school from the FCS level to FBS and immediately earn three consecutive bowl wins. In 2018, Satterfield resigned from Appalachian State to become the head coach at the University of Louisville for the 2019 season. His first year at Louisville saw the team achieve an 8–5 record and win the 2019 Music City Bowl, earning him the prestigious ACC Coach of the Year Award.

His Louisville teams averaged over 200 rushing yards and 30 points per game, reaching two bowl games. He then moved to the University of Cincinnati as head coach in December 2022, leading Cincinnati to their first Big 12 Conference win on November 11, 2023. Satterfield’s career head coaching record across major schools stands at 85-57, with a 4-1 bowl record.
