About

Vincent Paul Young Jr. was born on May 18, 1983, in Houston, Texas, where he was raised primarily by his mother and grandmother. He developed his football skills early, playing quarterback for three years at Madison High School in Houston. During his senior year, he led Madison High to a notable 61–58 victory in the 5A Regionals, accumulating over 400 yards of total offense and contributing five touchdowns. His high school career culminated with numerous accolades, including being named Parade’s and Student Sports’ National Player of the Year in 2001, and receiving the Pete Dawkins Trophy at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He also excelled in basketball, track and field, and baseball.

Young went on to play college football at the University of Texas, where he became one of the most celebrated quarterbacks in NCAA history. After redshirting his freshman year, he took over as starting quarterback in the 2003 season and quickly gained national attention for his dual-threat capabilities. In his junior year (2005), he led the Texas Longhorns to an undefeated season and a victory in the BCS National Championship against the USC Trojans in the 2006 Rose Bowl. This game is widely regarded as one of the greatest in college football history, with Young accounting for 467 yards of total offense and three rushing touchdowns. He earned the Davey O’Brien Award and the Maxwell Award in 2005, and his jersey number 10 was retired by the University of Texas in 2008.

Drafted by the Tennessee Titans as the third overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, Young immediately made an impact. He was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2006 and earned two Pro Bowl selections during his six seasons in the league. After his NFL career, Young returned to his alma mater, the University of Texas, where he worked in the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement from 2014 to 2019, focusing on program alumni relations and fundraising for underprivileged students. In 2021, he rejoined the university as a special assistant in the athletic department, continuing his involvement in collegiate sports and community initiatives.
