Vir Das is an Emmy Award-winning comedian, actor, and musician, recognized globally for his stand-up specials and versatile acting roles.
Global footwear brand Hush Puppies, in collaboration with Bata India, signed comedian and actor Vir Das to launch its latest campaign titled 'Ease Please,' designed to promote a new line of footwear. He was appointed as their new brand ambassador.
His team at Weirdass Comedy reached out for help with marketing his comedy special 'Inside Out'. A novelty concept borne out of the lockdown, it is about his digital comedy show.
Vir Das has collaborated with Netflix multiple times for his comedy specials. His shows include "Abroad Understanding," "Losing It," "Vir Das: Landing," and "Vir Das: Fool Volume."

Vir Das was born on May 31, 1979, in Dehradun, India. He spent his early years in Nigeria, where he attended the Indian Language School in Lagos, later continuing his education at The Lawrence School, Sanawar, and Delhi Public School, Noida, in India. He pursued higher education at Knox College, Illinois, earning a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Theatre, with a focus on performance. During his time at Knox, Das developed his stand-up comedy skills, presenting his first special, “Brown Men Can’t Hump.” He received a Richter Scholarship for Theatre and the Colton Performance Award for Outstanding Achievement in Acting from Knox. After graduating, he was accepted into the Stanislavsky Program of the Moscow Arts Theatre and also trained as a method actor at Harvard for six months.
Returning to India in April 2003, Das performed over 100 comedy shows across major Indian cities. He debuted six comedy specials, including “Brown Men Can’t Hump,” “Not for Members Only,” and “VIRagra.” His television career began with hosting roles on Indian TV channels such as ‘Zoom’ for ‘Is Route Ki Sabhin Linein Maast Hain’ and his own late-night stand-up show ‘Ek Rahin Vir.’ He also hosted ‘Top Drive – Getaway’ for ‘Star World.’ His acting career advanced with minor roles in Bollywood films, including Vipul Shah’s 2007 movie ‘Namastey London.’ He gained further recognition in Hindi cinema with roles in “Delhi Belly,” “Badmaash Company,” and “Go Goa Gone.”
In April 2017, Vir Das achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Indian comedian to release a Netflix comedy special, “Abroad Understanding.” This was followed by his second Netflix special, “Losing It,” in December 2018. In 2019, he made his American television debut in the series “Whiskey Cavalier.” His career continued to evolve with the release of his music album “Mauritian Chutney” with his comedy rock band Alien Chutney in 2012. In 2023, he received the International Emmy Award for Best Comedy Series for his Netflix special, “Vir Das: Landing,” cementing his international standing.
