Wang Han, born on January 24, 1991, in Baoding, Hebei, China, began her athletic journey at the tender age of four, initially practicing gymnastics at the Baoding Sports Kindergarten. Her exceptional talent led to her selection by the Hebei diving team coach in 2000, marking the beginning of her illustrious diving career. By 2005, Wang Han had already made her mark, clinching the women’s single 10-meter platform diving championship at the Asian Swimming Championships, a significant early achievement that foreshadowed her future success.
Her career progressed steadily, leading to her selection for the prestigious Chinese National Diving Team in 2008. Over the next decade, Wang Han achieved numerous milestones, including gold medals at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou for women’s synchronized 3-meter springboard, the 2013 National Games of China in Liaoning for women’s double 3-meter springboard, and multiple World Aquatics Championships titles. Notable World Championship golds include the mixed 3-meter springboard in Kazan in 2015 and Budapest in 2017, and the women’s synchronized 3-meter springboard in Gwangju in 2019 alongside her partner Shi Tingmao. These achievements solidified her reputation as a formidable competitor on the global stage.
The pinnacle of her career arrived at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo (held in 2021). There, Wang Han, partnered with Shi Tingmao, secured an Olympic gold medal in the women’s synchronized 3-meter springboard, fulfilling a long-held dream. She also earned a silver medal in the women’s single 3-meter springboard event. Following her remarkable Olympic performance, Wang Han announced her retirement from international competition on April 5, 2022. She immediately transitioned into a new role, becoming the coach of the Hebei diving team, where she continues to contribute to the sport by nurturing emerging talent. Her dedication and achievements have been recognized with significant national honors, including the China Youth May Fourth Medal and the National March 8 Red Banner Bearer award.
