About

Wendi Peters was born on February 29, 1968, in Blackburn, Lancashire, England. Her professional acting career commenced in 1987 at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, following her training in musical theatre. She established a strong presence in theatre roles throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, appearing in productions such as “The Scarlet Pimpernel” (1991), “Guys and Dolls” (1991), “Into the Woods” (1992), “Bedroom Farce” (1996), and “Noises Off” (1997). These early years on stage provided a foundation for her diverse career in the performing arts. Her television debut came in the BBC medical drama “Cardiac Arrest,” and she subsequently took on minor roles in “Out of the Blue” and “Bad Girls.”

Peters gained widespread recognition for her role as Cilla Battersby-Brown in the ITV soap opera “Coronation Street,” which she first joined in 2003 and continued until 2007, with a brief return in 2014. During her time on the show, she also participated in “Soapstar Superstar” in 2006, raising £35,000 for charity. Following her departure from “Coronation Street,” Peters explored other opportunities, including reaching the final of “Celebrity MasterChef” in 2009. She continued to perform in touring theatre productions, including a one-woman play “Mrs Whippy” (2009) and “Grumpy Old Women Live 2 – Chin Up Britain” (2010). Her stage work received critical acclaim, particularly for her performance in Northern Broadsides’ “The Game” (2010), with critics describing her as “magnificent.”

Her career continued to involve a mix of television and stage work. She starred as Cook Jenkins in the CBBC series “Hetty Feather” from 2015 to 2017. More recently, Peters took on the role of Dr. Nina Bulsara in the BBC soap opera “Doctors,” appearing from 2023 to 2024. She also maintains an active presence in musical theatre, having starred in productions such as “White Christmas,” and in touring shows like “Oh, What a Lovely War!” (2015) and “Quartet” (2018). Her recent role as Mother Superior in “Sister Act The Musical” (2024) further highlights her sustained engagement with live performance.
