William King Hollis, born in Pontiac, Michigan, experienced a difficult childhood in the projects. He grew up amidst gun violence and his parents struggled with addiction, with his father involved in drug activities and his mother battling heroin addiction. Hollis faced significant educational challenges, unable to read until the age of 16, and was often told he would not achieve success. He relied on his athletic abilities, particularly in football, to navigate high school, and went on to play at Clark Atlanta University. During his time at Clark Atlanta, he was recognized as one of the top 25 Defensive Linemen in the nation, making him a potential NFL prospect for the 2011 class.
However, a series of personal setbacks, including injuries, family tragedy, and depression, disrupted his athletic career. Hollis experienced periods of homelessness. At one point, in Mississippi, he contemplated suicide, an event he attributes to a life-altering turning point. Following this critical moment, Hollis discovered his passion and purpose in motivational speaking. Two years after hitting rock bottom, he secured a paid speaking opportunity at a high school, which marked the beginning of his new career trajectory.
Since then, Hollis has become a world-renowned motivational speaker, author, and coach, accumulating over 180 million total views on YouTube. He has delivered speeches to a variety of audiences, including NFL football teams, high schools, colleges, churches, and youth conferences. Notably, he made history as the first motivational speaker to perform during Milan Fashion Week, headlining the premiere of the Plein Sports line in Milan, Italy. His work focuses on guiding individuals from pain to purpose, promoting resilience and the belief that personal challenges can be overcome.
