Wyndham Robert Clark was born on December 9, 1993, in Denver, Colorado. His introduction to golf began early, and he developed his skills at Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. During his high school career, Clark won the Colorado state golf championship twice and was recognized as player of the year in 2011. He initially enrolled at Oklahoma State University in 2012, where he continued to compete in amateur golf tournaments. In 2013, he tied for ninth place in stroke play at the U.S. Amateur, demonstrating his potential on a national stage. Clark later transferred to the University of Oregon in 2016, where he achieved further success, including winning the Pac-12 conference championship and being named GolfWeek Player of the Year. He graduated with a business degree in 2017.
Clark turned professional in 2017 and earned his Web.com Tour card for the 2018 season. He made 24 starts that year, securing four top-10 finishes and ultimately finishing 16th on the tour money list, which qualified him for the PGA Tour for the 2018–19 season. A significant turning point in his professional career occurred in 2023. In May, Clark secured his first PGA Tour title at the Wells Fargo Championship, where he outperformed Xander Schauffele by four shots. This victory was quickly followed by his first major championship win at the 2023 U.S. Open on June 18, 2023, where he finished one stroke ahead of Rory McIlroy, collecting a substantial prize of $3.6 million. This victory marked a rapid ascent in his career, occurring in only his seventh major start.
His success continued into 2024, notably winning the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February. He shot a course-record and career-low round of 60 at Pebble Beach, securing a one-stroke victory over Ludvig Åberg in a tournament shortened to 54 holes due to weather. Clark has also represented the United States in team competitions, including the 2023 Ryder Cup, where he went 1–1–1, and the victorious 2024 Presidents Cup team. His career earnings have approached $43 million, and he has achieved a highest world ranking of 3 as of April 21, 2024. These achievements highlight his consistent performance and strong presence in professional golf.
