Yancy Butler

Yancy Victoria Butler was born on July 2, 1970, in Greenwich Village, New York City. Her family has a background in show business; her father, Joe Butler, was the lead singer and drummer for The Lovin’ Spoonful, and her mother, Leslie, worked as a company manager for Broadway shows. Her grandparents were also involved in theater. Butler began her acting studies at the HB Studios in New York at the age of 13 and later attended Sarah Lawrence College, graduating in 1991.

Butler began her professional acting career with a television debut in “Law & Order.” This led to her first series regular role in “Mann & Machine” in 1992, where she portrayed an android police officer. The following year, she starred in another series, “South Beach.” Her feature film career began with a supporting role in “Savage Weekend” (1979), followed by a starring role in John Woo’s 1993 film “Hard Target” with Jean-Claude Van Damme. She continued to secure roles in films such as “Drop Zone” (1994) and was cast in the CBS television series “Brooklyn South” from 1997 to 1998.

A significant milestone in Butler’s career was her role as Detective Sara Pezzini in the television film “Witchblade” (2000), which then led to the subsequent television series from 2001 to 2002. For her performance in “Witchblade,” she received a Saturn Award for Best Actress in a Television Series in 2002. She has also appeared in other notable projects such as “Lake Placid 3” (2010), “Kick-Ass” (2010), and its sequel “Kick-Ass 2” (2013). Her career has spanned several decades, encompassing various roles across film and television.
