Since its founding almost three decades ago, MN2S has become a major player in music distribution and label services, providing independent artists and labels with the tools they need to succeed.
One of our longest-running and most successful partnerships is with house music legend DJ Spen. For over a decade, MN2S has supported DJ Spen’s creative vision, helping grow his record labels and keeping him at the forefront of the global dance music scene.
Sean “DJ Spen” Spencer’s journey began in the mid-1980s in Baltimore, where he started as a hip-hop DJ with the group Numarx. The group famously wrote and recorded the original version of “Girl You Know It’s True,” which later became a global hit when Milli Vanilli covered it. By the early ’90s, Spen had shifted his focus to house music, joining the influential production team Basement Boys. His signature style blended Chicago house with R&B, funk, and gospel influences, setting him apart in the dance music world.
In 1995, DJ Spen released his first solo track, “A Feeling,” a high-energy gospel house anthem. After leaving Basement Boys in 2003, he launched Code Red Recordings, working with major artists like Ann Nesby, Toni Braxton, and Sybil. This independent drive led him to create Quantize Recordings in 2012, a label known for soulful house music and a home for both emerging and established talent.
MN2S Label Services has been essential in the growth of DJ Spen’s labels, Quantize Recordings and its sub-labels, Unquantize and QU3. Their partnership began in 2012, when Spen teamed up with MN2S to launch Quantize. Since then, the label has dropped over 1,500 tracks, making a significant impact on the dance music scene. A few weeks ago, Quantize Recordings issued its 500th release, Marc Evans and DJ Spen’s “Back To Your Place”.
DJ Spen speaks highly of his experience working with MN2S: “Working with MN2S Label Services has been a very easy process; they make running a record label really easy,” he says. “Chris is very fluent in all label-related matters; he is quick, there’s usually nothing that I can ask him that he can’t do, and he’s just amazing – very knowledgeable and very up-to-date. The services are excellent, and I don’t think Quantize could be in existence without them. It’s been a pleasure working with MN2S since day one, and I just can’t imagine a better scenario. I’m grateful that we’re still working together for thirteen years, it’s been an incredible journey.”
Chris James says that he’s found working with DJ Spen “extremely rewarding” and enjoyed an excellent working relationship. “It’s been my pleasure to assist with every release on each of Spen’s labels, ensuring accurate & timely delivery, pushing for feature placements, securing a Spotify in-house DJ Mix for Spen, providing artist royalty statements with my colleague Patryk’s help for all of Spen’s artists, launching QU3 by achieving a Beatport House genre page banner, advising on situations ranging from cover songs through to sample clearance, liaising with Mi-soul radio for playlisted tracks, and much, much more!”
