DJ Spen records Chicago house-inspired mix for The Ransom Note | News | PR | MN2S

Chicago-influenced house DJ and producer, DJ Spen has recorded an hour-long mix for The Ransom Note.

Former member of the Basement Boys, DJ Spen has treated us with a mix from the Chicago roots he has come to admire. Though growing up in Baltimore, he has always seen the connection between cities, which has put a spin on the music he creates. He sat down with The Ransom Note to record a mix that’s “an ode to the sound of Chicago upon which he was raised and hasn’t left since.” When asked about the ideal setting to listen to the mix, Spen responded: “Well, if times were different, I would say a nightclub on a really good system so you can hear all the sound elements. But since there aren’t any nightclubs open at the present moment, I’ll say grab a really nice speaker and a couple friends and play this at a small gathering.”

Along with the mix, DJ Spen also provided a a vibrant interview about his DJ history, his musical personality and the dreams he’s had throughout his DJ career. He starts off discussing the mix he has recorded, stating that the colorful and electric sound will have everyone dancing and the optimal setting for his track to be played. The interview goes further in depth with him analyzing how he creates his work and who he would create with. DJ Spen is in the works of creating two albums that are scheduled for release at the end of this year and the beginning of 2021: “I am working on an album that I hope will be done by the end of the year and that will likely be followed shortly by a second album for the first part of next year. Of course, my label Quantize Recordings is really pushing to continue at least two releases every week.”
