Hit Netflix stand up show returns featuring MN2S Talent

Last month saw Netflix release season two of their popular comedy series, The Standups. Six established comedians perform a half-hour long set – Joe List, Aparna Nancherla, Kyle Kinane,, Brent Morin, Rachel Feinstein and Gina Yashere – who is on the books here at celebrity talent agency MN2S.

Gina is a British comedian whose career in the US has eclipsed her following at home in the UK. Born in Bethnal Green, she was a lift technician before her big break in 1996, when she was named the Hackney Empire New Act of the Year. She’s had a high-flying career to date, hosting the MOBO awards and appearing on the Lenny Henry show, and in 2017 was named the British Correspondent for The Daily Show, one of the USA’s biggest late night talk shows.

Her return to The Standups is another huge boost, helping Gina to reach a larger audience from all over the world. She said, speaking to splitsider.com: “Netflix is number one right now. I travel all over the world doing comedy, and I already have a good sized fan base in the UK where I’m from, in Australia, and all over Asia, where I tour every year.

“The fact that my special will be instantly accessible to a worldwide audience is massive. Comedy is international, so I’m looking forward to gaining more fans in America and beyond. The internet has made the world a small place, and Netflix has really tapped into that.”

The special was the first that Gina has not self-produced; previously she has been responsible not only for getting on stage and being funny, but for everything else too. “I’ve always rented a theater, sold tickets, hired a crew, and filmed the gig, so once I got my head around the fact that I wasn’t responsible for setting up everything, this special felt easy to me,” Gina said.

“All I had to do was turn up and do my thing. Also, I’ve always tried not to look at them as tapings, but as stand-up sets like all others, just they happen to be being recorded. That way, I recreate the same sense of fun I have on my regular, no-pressure sets.”
