Adam Freeland, born on August 7, 1973, in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, England, began his DJ career in 1991. Initially, he focused on deep house, later incorporating drum and bass into his sets. His early work involved mixing various genres, which contributed to his distinctive sound. Freeland founded the record label Marine Parade in 1998, a platform that has supported artists such as Evil Nine, ILS, Alex Metric, and Jape, establishing a roster of talent within the electronic music scene. His commitment to developing new sounds and artists has been a consistent aspect of his career, demonstrating a dedication to the evolution of electronic music.
Throughout his career, Freeland has consistently explored and integrated diverse musical elements, moving beyond traditional genre boundaries. His debut studio album, “Now & Them,” released in 2003, showcased influences from punk, hip hop, electro, dub, reggae, and rock, featuring the UK Top 40 hit “We Want Your Soul.” This period marked a significant shift in his artistic direction, leading to a broader appeal.
