Danny Tenaglia

Daniel “Danny” Tenaglia was born on March 7, 1961, in Brooklyn, New York. His early career as a DJ began in New York, playing at venues such as the Roller Palace, Stix, and Crisco Disco. In 1985, Tenaglia relocated to Miami, where he became a resident DJ at Cheers nightclub, focusing on classic New York and Chicago house sounds. Five years later, he returned to New York, marking a pivotal moment for his work as a remixer. During this period, he produced notable remixes for prominent artists, demonstrating his evolving influence in the dance music scene.

Tenaglia achieved mainstream recognition with his remix of The Daou’s “Surrender Yourself” in 1993. This success led to the release of several label compilations, including “Mix This Pussy” (1994) and “Can Your Pussy Do the Dog?” (1995) for TRIBAL, and “Gag Me with a Tune” (1996) for Maxi. In 1996, he began a Saturday night residency at the New York nightclub Twilo, after a brief tenure at Roxy. This residency moved to New York club Tunnel in 1998, further solidifying his presence in the city’s nightlife.

The year 1998 saw the release of his album “Tourism,” which featured “Elements,” a track that reached number one on the Billboard Dance Chart for two weeks. “Music Is The Answer,” featuring Celeda, also from the “Tourism” album, made it into the top 40 charts in the UK. In 1999, Tenaglia contributed to the UK-based Global Underground series with his mix album “Athens.” His career continued to gather momentum in the early 2000s, with another Global Underground installment, “London,” and a Grammy nomination for his remix of Depeche Mode’s “I Feel Loved.” He received a Dancestar Lifetime Achievement award and later released “Choice: A Collection Of Classics” in 2003, winning another Dancestar award for ‘Best Party’ for “Be Yourself.” Tenaglia continues to perform globally and released the single “The Space Dance” on Tommy Boy Records in 2008, which reached number one on the Billboard Club Charts. His compilation album “Futurism” followed, featuring tracks from artists such as Davide Squillace and The Wighnomy Brothers.
