Global Roots is the creation of Thristian, a selector with a significant presence in the global music scene. Thristian has established a reputation for championing eclectic music, exploring diverse sounds and genres across various geographical locations. His work focuses on unearthing and promoting underground, unknown, and unexplored music.
His career began with co-founding Boiler Room, an early online broadcasting platform prominent in music culture. Thristian also contributed to NTS and Channel 4. He further collaborated with Gilles Peterson to create Worldwide FM, where he now serves as Creative Director, hosting weekly shows like Global Roots and New Music Worldwide. The Global Roots concept originated as a club night at Plastic People in London and has since developed into a comprehensive brand.
This brand includes radio shows, pop-up exhibitions, and film screenings. Global Roots has formed partnerships with festivals such as Dimensions, Bahidora, and Worldwide Festival. The platform has also organized events and parties in various international locations, including Ethiopia, Mexico, Havana, and Seoul. Since 2019, Thristian has been responsible for programming music for Tate Modern Lates, featuring performers like Yasmin Lacey, Femi Koleoso of Ezra Collective, Tyson, Laurel Halo, and Actress in the Turbine Hall. Global Roots Radio broadcasts weekly on London’s Rinse.FM.
