Gryffin

Daniel Griffith, known professionally as Gryffin, was born on September 29, 1987, in San Francisco, California. His musical foundation was built early, learning classical piano and guitar during his youth. He further developed his instrumental skills by playing in bands. Griffith pursued a degree in electrical engineering at the University of Southern California, where he spent significant leisure time in his dorm room working on music production. In 2009, prior to adopting the Gryffin moniker, he began releasing music as part of White Panda with childhood friend Tom Evans. This duo gained popularity on college campuses and music-streaming websites, embarking on a national tour in July 2011 and performing at festivals such as Firefly Music Festival and Lollapalooza.

His solo career as Gryffin officially launched with his ‘world’ debut at the SnowGlobe Music Festival in 2015. He gained initial recognition for remixing popular tracks, including Tove Lo’s “Talking Body,” Maroon 5’s “Animals,” and Years & Years’ “Desire.” He subsequently relocated to Los Angeles to be closer to his label and management. In 2016, Gryffin released his debut single “Heading Home” featuring Josef Salvat, under Darkroom/Interscope Records. The track achieved commercial success, peaking at number 22 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart and number 1 on the Spotify Viral 50 chart. This was followed by “Whole Heart” in the same year, solidifying his presence in the electronic music scene.

Throughout his career, Gryffin has consistently released music and collaborated with a diverse range of artists. His debut full-length album, “Gravity,” released in 2019, received critical acclaim and reached number 1 on the Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart, also entering the Billboard 200. He continued to expand his discography with subsequent albums “Alive” in 2022 and “Pulse” in 2024. These albums feature collaborations with artists like Elderbrook, Disco Lines, Armin van Buuren, and Kaskade, further showcasing his melodic house style and ability to integrate various genres while maintaining a distinct sound. His work has been characterized by a hybrid of electric and organic musical elements, utilizing piano and guitar.
