Ibibio Sound Machine

Ibibio Sound Machine, an electrifying English-based afro-funk band, was formed in 2013 in London. The band is fronted by the dynamic vocalist Eno Williams, whose unique blend of traditional African sounds and contemporary electronic music has captivated audiences worldwide. The ensemble also features talented musicians including guitarist Alfred Kari Bannerman and percussionist Afla Sackey, creating a rich tapestry of sound that draws from various genres such as afrobeat, disco, and electronic music.

The band’s debut single, “Let’s Dance,” released in January 2014, marked the beginning of their professional journey, followed by their self-titled debut album later that year. This initial success laid the groundwork for their evolving sound and growing fanbase. In 2017, they signed with Merge Records, releasing their critically acclaimed second album, “Uyai,” which showcased their innovative approach to music and solidified their reputation in the global music scene.

In 2022, Ibibio Sound Machine released “Electricity,” produced by the renowned band Hot Chip. The album received rave reviews from major outlets, with Clash Music praising its bright and buoyant nature. This project highlighted the band’s ability to fuse diverse influences while maintaining a cohesive and imaginative sound.

Continuing their momentum, the group released their latest album, “Pull the Rope,” in 2024, further demonstrating their commitment to pushing musical boundaries.
