Matthew Koma

Matthew Bair, known professionally as Matthew Koma, was born on June 2, 1987, in Brooklyn and raised in Seaford, New York. His musical journey began at a young age, influenced by his singer-songwriter father, with whom he performed on stage at age four. Koma wrote his first song at nine and credits artists like Elvis Costello and Bruce Springsteen as early inspirations. He attended Seaford High School, where he continued to develop his passion for music.

Koma’s career progression saw him sign with Interscope Records in June 2011 after an acoustic performance. In May 2012, he released his debut EP, “Parachute,” writing and co-producing all four tracks. During this period, he also lent his vocals to Black Cards’ “End of Pretend” and co-produced a remix for Bruce Springsteen’s “Rocky Ground.” His early career involved touring with notable acts such as LMFAO, Far East Movement, and Owl City, which helped establish his presence in the music scene.

Throughout his career, Matthew Koma has become recognized for his songwriting and production work, contributing to successful tracks for various artists. He received a BMI Pop Award in 2014 for “Clarity” and a Billboard Music Award in 2012 for “Spectrum.” Beyond his personal projects, Koma has consistently engaged in collaborations, extending his reach across different musical styles and audiences. His work demonstrates a versatile approach to music, encompassing roles as a vocalist, guitarist, and keyboardist across pop, punk rock, EDM, and hip hop genres.
