Joshua Mellody, born on June 1, 1989, in Penzance, Cornwall, England, is known professionally as Zomboy. Before adopting the Zomboy moniker, he worked on an electronicore project called Place Your Bet$, releasing a demo album in 2010. His entry into electronic music began with studies in Music Production at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford. Zomboy’s career in dubstep officially began in 2011 with the release of his debut EP, ‘Game Time,’ through Never Say Die Records. This EP quickly gained traction, reaching the top 5 on the Beatport dubstep charts for over eight weeks. His early success led to his music and remixes being licensed for compilations by labels such as Warner and Ministry of Sound.
Zomboy continued to build his discography with ‘The Dead Symphonic EP’ in 2012. In 2013, he released the single “Here to Stay,” featuring Lady Chann, on No Tomorrow Records, followed by his ‘Reanimated EP,’ released in two parts across Never Say Die Records and No Tomorrow Recordings. A significant milestone was his debut album, ‘The Outbreak,’ released in August 2014 by Never Say Die Records. This album achieved commercial success, reaching number one on the iTunes Electronic Chart in 10 countries, including the USA, Canada, Italy, and Germany, and peaking at number 9 on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart. His influence grew through productions and remixes, including his 2016 remix of The Chainsmokers ft. Daya – “Don’t Let Me Down,” which accumulated over 23 million combined streams. His track “Like A B*tch” from the 2018 ‘Neon Grave’ EP has over 28 million streams. From 2017 to 2019, Zomboy expanded his “Rott N’ Roll” brand, which included a two-part Extended Player, a radio show, and a corresponding tour.
In 2022, Zomboy released ‘Rott N’ Roll Part 1,’ coinciding with a US tour, with remixes following later that year. He also launched his own imprint, Rott N’ Roll Records, with ‘Dead Man Walking Pt. 1’ marking its inaugural release. He plans to release ‘Dead Man Walking, Pt. 2’ in 2024. Zomboy maintains a release strategy that prioritizes quality over quantity, often releasing one or two carefully curated projects annually. He often creates cinematic creative universes around his music, drawing inspiration from filmmakers like Quentin Tarantino. He uses platforms like SoundCloud for experimenting with ideas, discovering new music, and engaging with his fanbase.
