Luis Ferdinand Vega Jr., known as “Little Louie” Vega, was born on June 12, 1965, in The Bronx, New York. Growing up in a musical family, his father, Luis F. Vega Sr., was a jazz saxophonist, and his uncle was the renowned singer Héctor Lavoe of the Fania All-Stars. Vega began his musical journey as a disc jockey at the age of 13, spinning records and refining his skills.
By 1985, Vega was actively involved in playing house and block parties in the Bronx. His early nightclub residencies included the Devil’s Nest in the Bronx, followed by Heartthrob, Roseland, Studio 54, and the Palladium in Manhattan. The 1990s marked a significant period for Vega as he became a resident DJ at The Sound Factory Bar, participating in the influential Underground Network Parties with promoters Don Welch and Barbara Tucker. During this decade, he also co-founded the Masters at Work musical production team with Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez, a collaboration that would become central to his career.
Vega’s career has been characterized by consistent output and critical acclaim. He has released multiple albums, including “Elements of Life” (2004), “Louie Vega Starring…XXVIII” (2016), and “Expansions In The NYC” (2022). His work has earned him recognition within the electronic music community, notably being ranked number 1 at the Top Artists of 2021 by Traxsource. He continues to perform, produce, and collaborate, influencing global dance music genres.
