Daniel Coulter Reynolds was born on July 14, 1987, in Las Vegas, Nevada, the seventh of nine children. He attended Brigham Young University before dedicating himself to a music career. In Utah, Reynolds formed Imagine Dragons with Wayne Sermon, eventually recruiting Ben McKee and Daniel Platzman to complete the lineup. The band relocated to Las Vegas, performing frequently as a lounge act. Their first significant opportunity arose in 2009 when they filled in for Train at the Bite of Las Vegas Festival, performing for over 26,000 people. In November 2011, Imagine Dragons signed with Interscope Records.
Imagine Dragons released their debut studio album, “Night Visions,” on September 4, 2012. The album featured hit singles like “It’s Time” and “Radioactive.” “Radioactive” achieved significant commercial success, setting records for its duration on the Billboard Rock Songs chart and the Billboard Hot 100. It became the best-selling rock song in digital history. The band received a Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance and numerous other accolades, including Billboard Music Awards and American Music Awards. Their subsequent albums, “Smoke + Mirrors” (2015), “Evolve” (2017), “Origins” (2018), and “Mercury – Act 1” (2021) and “Mercury – Act 2” (2022) continued to achieve chart success and critical recognition, producing hit singles such as “Believer,” “Thunder,” and “Enemy.” The recent album, “Loom,” released in June 2024, also charted on the Billboard 200.
Beyond Imagine Dragons, Reynolds has pursued other musical endeavors and advocacy. In 2010, he co-formed Egyptian with Aja Volkman, releasing an EP. He also discovered and helped X Ambassadors secure a record deal with KidinaKorner/Interscope Records in 2013, co-writing several songs on their Platinum-certified debut album, “VHS.” In 2016, he established Night Street Records, an imprint under Interscope, signing artists like K.Flay and Benson Boone. Reynolds is also the founder of the LoveLoud festival, an annual event aimed at supporting LGBTQ youth and promoting acceptance, raising significant funds for organizations like The Trevor Project and GLAAD.
