Zachary Lewis Beck, professionally known as Futuristic, was born on June 2, 1991, in Bloomington, Illinois. He began rapping in the first grade during a talent show with his brothers. Following his parents’ separation in fifth grade, he moved to Danville, Illinois with his mother, and later relocated to Tempe, Arizona, where he attended McClintock High School. Music served as an outlet for him during a period of depression after his grandmother’s passing, helping him to develop his craft. He initiated his musical career with the release of his first music video in September 2010, a remix of J. Cole’s “Who Dat”.
Futuristic released his debut studio album, “Dream Big,” in February 2012, followed by “Chasing Down a Dream” in February 2013. The latter included the single “Don’t Mind If I Do” featuring Dizzy Wright and Jarren Benton. In September 2013, he released his debut extended play, “T.G.I.F.” His third studio album, “Traveling Local,” was released on June 9, 2014, supported by singles that featured collaborations with artists such as Dizzy Wright, Layzie Bone, Jarren Benton, and Chris Webby. This period established his foundation as an emerging artist with a consistent release schedule.
The year 2015 marked a significant turning point with the release of his fourth studio album, “The Rise,” on May 12. The album gained considerable attention, particularly due to the single “The Greatest” and its accompanying music video, which was cross-promoted by BigDawsTv. “The Rise” debuted at number 139 on the US Billboard 200 chart and also appeared on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Rap Albums charts. Later that year, he contributed to A Great Big World’s “Hold Each Other,” which charted on the US Billboard Hot 100 and the Canadian Hot 100, marking his first appearance on these prominent charts. His collaborative album, “Coast 2 Coast,” with Devvon Terrell, released in December 2015, further showcased his collaborative spirit and reached number 82 on the US Billboard 200. In August 2016, he released his fifth studio album, “As Seen on the Internet,” which featured artists like Hopsin and Karmin, peaking at number 116 on the Billboard 200.
