About

Aria Wells, professionally known as Greentea Peng, was born in December 1994 in Bermondsey, South London. Her musical journey began in childhood, singing in school and church choirs, influenced by her father, an actor who introduced her to theater and music. After her parents separated at age 12, she moved to Hastings with her mother, though she frequently returned to London to visit her father. During her teenage years, she wrote and performed music, but bullying led to a loss of confidence, causing her to stop making music by 15. She later dropped out of school after passing her GSCEs early. Upon returning to London at 17, Wells worked in various bars, including the nightclub Visions in Dalston, while dealing with substance abuse, including Xanax addiction, from a young age.

Her career took a significant turn during her travels. After saving money from bartending, Wells traveled to California, Peru, and most notably, Tulum, Mexico. It was in Peru that she adopted her stage name, finding inspiration from a box of Green Tea Seng and adding the London slang word ‘peng.’ In Tulum, while working at a self-help yoga retreat, she regained the confidence to pursue music. She met her current manager, KESH, during this period and soon joined the band Los Hedonistas, performings gigs and covering songs. Upon returning to London after six months in Mexico, she collaborated with producer Earbuds, leading to her debut six-track EP, “Sensi,” released in October 2018. The EP explored themes of a past breakup and withdrawal from marijuana, blending R&B, hip-hop, and dub reggae.

Greentea Peng’s popularity grew following a live performance of her single “Downers” on COLORS in June 2019, which garnered millions of views. This momentum continued with her second EP, “Rising,” released in November 2019. In January 2020, she was featured in The Observer’s “20 for 2020” list of rising stars. She collaborated with The Streets on “I Wish You Loved You as Much As You Love Him” in June 2020. Her single “Hu Man” was released in August 2020, followed by her television debut on Later… with Jools Holland. In November 2020, she released “Revolution,” a song responding to global events and social tensions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Greentea Peng placed fourth in the BBC’s Sound of… 2021 list. Her debut full-length album, “Man Made,” was released in June 2021, and her mixtape “Greenzone 108” followed in September 2022. She has another album, “Tell Dem It’s Sunny,” scheduled for release in March 2025.
