James Blunt

James Hillier Blount was born on February 22, 1974, in Tidworth, Hampshire, England. He received his education at Elstree School and Harrow School, before attending the University of Bristol, where he earned a BSc (Hons) in Aerospace Manufacturing Engineering and Sociology in 1996. Prior to his music career, Blunt served in the British Army, training at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, and rising to the rank of Captain in the Life Guards. His military service included deployment to Kosovo in 1999 as part of NATO peacekeeping forces, where he participated in reconnaissance missions and famously stood guard at Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother’s coffin in 2002. After six years of service, Blunt left the army in 2002 to pursue his passion for music.

Blunt’s music career began shortly after leaving the army, adopting the stage name James Blunt. He signed with EMI music publishers and Twenty-First Artists management in 2002. His breakthrough came with the release of his debut album, “Back to Bedlam,” in 2004, which featured hit singles “You’re Beautiful” and “Goodbye My Lover.” “You’re Beautiful” reached number one in thirteen countries, including the UK and the US, making him the first British artist to top the American singles chart in nearly a decade. By 2009, “Back to Bedlam” had sold over 12 million copies worldwide and was recognized as the best-selling album of the 2000s in the UK. This success led to an 11-month world tour and multiple awards, cementing his status as a global artist.

Following his debut, Blunt continued to release successful albums, including “All the Lost Souls” (2007), which topped charts in twelve countries, “Some Kind of Trouble” (2010), “Moon Landing” (2013), “The Afterlove” (2017), “Once Upon a Mind” (2019), and “Who We Used to Be” (2023). He has sold over 20 million records globally and received numerous accolades, such as two Brit Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards, and two Ivor Novello Awards, along with five Grammy Award nominations. In 2016, he received an Honorary Doctorate of Music from the University of Bristol, acknowledging his contributions to the music industry. Additionally, Blunt has actively engaged in charity work, supporting organizations like Help for Heroes and Médecins Sans Frontières, and has contributed to environmental causes.
