Maddie Marlow and Taylor Dye, known as Maddie & Tae, began their musical journey by meeting in 2010 at a vocal showcase in Dallas. Both were teenagers at the time, sharing a vocal coach and a strong ambition for a career in country music. After recognizing their vocal chemistry, they formed a duo and started regular trips to Nashville to write songs and lay the groundwork for their professional careers. Upon graduating high school, they relocated to Nashville, Tennessee. In June 2014, they were signed as the first act to the revived Dot Records by Big Machine Records.
Their debut single, “Girl in a Country Song,” co-written with Aaron Scherz and co-produced by Scherz and Dann Huff, was released in July 2014. This song gained attention for its commentary on the ‘bro-country’ trend prevalent at the time. It quickly ascended the charts, reaching number 1 on the Country Airplay chart by December 2014, marking a significant milestone as the first debut single by a female duo to achieve this since The Wreckers in 2006. In 2015, they released their debut album, “Start Here,” which included hit singles like “Fly” and “Shut Up and Fish.” They also made a television appearance on Disney Channel’s “Girl Meets World” in October 2015 and performed at The O2 Arena in London as part of the C2C: Country to Country festival in March 2016. That same year, they launched a fashion line with Bloomingdale’s.
Following the closure of Dot Records, Maddie & Tae signed with Mercury Nashville in 2018. Their career progression continued with the release of singles such as “Friends Don’t.” In 2019, they joined Carrie Underwood’s Cry Pretty Tour 360 as an opening act. Their second studio album, “The Way It Feels,” was released in April 2020. This album featured their second number 1 hit, “Die from a Broken Heart,” which they also co-wrote. In 2022, they released “Through the Madness, Vol. 1,” the first part of their third studio album, followed by the “All Song No Static Tour.” Their upcoming fourth studio album, “Love & Light,” is scheduled for release in 2025, supported by the Love & Light Tour.
