Michelle Wright has won multiple awards from the CCMA, including the Fans' Choice Award twice (1993, 1995), Female Artist of the Year multiple times, Album of the Year for 'Michelle Wright,' and Single of the Year for 'New Kind of Love' and 'He Would Be Sixteen.' She also received the C.F. Martin Humanitarian Award in 1997.
After the success of her debut album, 'Do Right by Me,' Michelle Wright signed a record contract with Arista Nashville, becoming one of their flagship artists. She later released several albums including 'Michelle Wright' and 'Now and Then,' and was with the label for her 'Greatest Hits' album release in the US.
In 2002, Michelle Wright was transferred to RCA Records/ViK. Recordings, under which she released her sixth studio album, 'Shut Up and Kiss Me,' in June of that year.
Michelle Wright signed with Icon Records in 2005, and in October of the same year, released her first Christmas album, 'A Wright Christmas,' in Canada under this label.
In 2011, Savannah Music Canada released Michelle Wright's first live album, 'The Wright Songs: An Acoustic Evening with Michelle Wright,' featuring seventeen tracks.
Michelle Wright signed with Chuck Thompson, President of the Nashville-based Thompson Entertainment Group, for management services in 2015.
In 2018, Michelle Wright signed with Navigator Records. The label subsequently released her first new music since the album 'Strong,' including singles like 'Lovin' This Day' and 'Attitude Is Everything,' and the holiday classic 'Silver Bells' in 2019.

Michelle Wright, born on July 1, 1961, in Chatham, Ontario, and raised in Merlin, Ontario, began her career in music influenced by her parents, who were local performers. By 1980, while studying counseling, she joined a local band, eventually forming her own in 1983. Her initial years involved extensive performing, playing six nights a week in clubs across Canada. This foundational experience led to her signing a record deal with Savannah Records in 1985. The following year, her debut single, “I Want to Count on You,” reached No. 48 on the Canadian RPM Country Tracks chart. Her debut album, “Do Right by Me,” released in 1988, produced several singles, including a cover of “Rock Me Gently,” which climbed to No. 7 on the Canadian RPM Country Tracks chart. The success of this album in Canada paved the way for a contract with Arista Nashville, where she became a flagship artist.
In April 1990, Wright’s American single, “New Kind of Love,” became a Top Five hit in Canada and peaked at No. 32 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart in the US. Her second album, “Michelle Wright,” was released in July 1990, leading to her joining Kenny Rogers’ 1991 tour as an opening act. Her work earned her several accolades, including Female Artist of the Year from the Canadian Country Music Association in 1990 and 1991, and Album of the Year for “Michelle Wright” and Single of the Year for “New Kind of Love” in 1991. Recognizing the momentum, Wright relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, in 1991 to focus on her career. In May 1992, she released her third album, “Now and Then,” which featured the hit single “Take It Like a Man.” This song reached No. 1 in Canada and No. 10 in the US, and also crossed over to adult contemporary charts.
The album “Now and Then” continued to generate success, with six more singles, including Canadian number-one hits “One Time Around” and “Guitar Talk.” In 1993, Wright received the Top New Female Vocalist award from the Academy of Country Music and appeared on the CBS special “Women of Country.” That same year, she won the Fans’ Choice Award from the Canadian Country Music Association, an honor she received again in 1995. Her career in the 1990s included significant touring, such as a 40-city Canadian tour in 1995, one of the most extensive at the time. She released “The Reasons Why” in 1994, which was successful in Canada and Europe. Her fifth album, “For Me It’s You,” released in 1996, included the Canadian number-one hit “Nobody’s Girl.” In 1997, she received the C.F. Martin Humanitarian Award for her international work with the Special Olympics and other charitable efforts. In 2011, Michelle Wright was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame, recognizing her sustained contributions to country music.
