Monsta X has spent a decade defining a distinct presence in the K-pop landscape, evolving from ‘beast idols’ to global ambassadors who blend hip-hop, EDM, and pop with lyrical depth. After debuting on May 14, 2015, through Starship Entertainment’s reality survival program, No.Mercy, Monsta X rapidly established a powerful presence in the K-pop landscape. With original members Shownu, Wonho, Minhyuk, Kihyun, Hyungwon, Joohoney, and I.M., the group quickly distinguished itself with an aggressive hip-hop, EDM, and pop fusion, earning them the ‘beast idols’ moniker. Their debut EP, Trespass, was released in 2015, the same year they garnered initial international exposure with their first U.S.
They embarked on their first world tour, ‘Beautiful,’ in 2017 and achieved their first music broadcast win on SBS MTV’s The Show with ‘Dramarama.’ Demonstrating a strong commitment to their craft, members, particularly Joohoney, have actively participated in songwriting and production since the group’s inception. Monsta X continued its global expansion with the release of their first Japanese studio album, Piece, in 2018, followed by a public broadcasting music program win on Music Bank with ‘Shoot Out’ that same year. In 2019, the group signed with Epic Records for English-language recordings and made history as the first K-pop group to perform at iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball Tour, appearing at events in both 2018 and 2019. Their entirely English album, All About Luv, released in 2020, achieved significant commercial success, peaking at number five on the U.S.
Looking ahead, Monsta X is set to commemorate their ten-year anniversary with the release of their EP, The X, in 2025, further solidifying their distinct and evolving presence in the K-pop landscape.
