Vinita Sandhya Strauss, known professionally as Nita Strauss, was born on December 7, 1986, in Los Angeles, California. She embarked on her musical journey at a young age, leaving high school early to pursue music full-time with her initial band, Lia-Fail. Strauss gained early recognition for her involvement with The Iron Maidens, an all-female Iron Maiden tribute band. Her career expanded to include performances with various rock and metal groups, such as As Blood Runs Black, Consume the Fire, Femme Fatale, and the video-game supergroup Critical Hit. This early work laid the foundation for her later success and established her as a versatile and skilled guitarist in the rock and metal scenes.
In 2014, Strauss’s career saw a significant turning point when she joined Alice Cooper’s touring band as a guitarist, a role she held for eight years. Her tenure with Alice Cooper solidified her reputation on a global scale, leading her to be featured on album projects like Docker’s Guild’s “The Heisenberg Diaries – Book A: Sounds of Future Past” (2016) and Alice Cooper’s “Paranormal” (2017). During this period, she also became the official in-house guitarist for the Los Angeles Kiss arena football team. Her solo career began a new chapter in 2018 with the successful Kickstarter campaign for her debut album, “Controlled Chaos.” This album achieved commercial success, charting across multiple Billboard categories and further showcasing her abilities as a solo artist and producer.
Strauss has continued to achieve notable milestones and expand her reach across different platforms. She became the first female signature artist with Ibanez guitars in 2018, releasing her own model, the JIVA10. Her solo work has also garnered significant recognition, with her song “Dead Inside” featuring David Draiman reaching number one on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart in 2022, marking her as the first female rock solo artist to do so in 32 years.
