Olivia Isabel Rodrigo was born on February 20, 2003, in Murrieta, California. Her early life in Temecula, California, was marked by a keen interest in music and acting. At age five, she began vocal lessons, soon competing in local contests and composing her own songs. Her parents, Jennifer, a teacher, and Chris, a family therapist, supported her talents, with Rodrigo commencing piano lessons at nine and learning guitar by twelve. Her immersion in alternative rock and country music, particularly Taylor Swift’s songwriting, significantly influenced her artistic development from a young age.
Rodrigo’s acting career began at age twelve with the lead role in the direct-to-video film “An American Girl: Grace Stirs Up Success” (2015). This was followed by a main role as Paige Olvera in the Disney Channel series “Bizaardvark” (2016–2019), which necessitated a move to Los Angeles and homeschooling. Her prominence grew when she was cast as Nini Salazar-Roberts in the Disney+ series “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” (2019–2022). For this series, she wrote and performed the promotional single “All I Want” (2019), which foreshadowed her musical breakthrough.
In 2020, Rodrigo signed with Geffen Records, ensuring ownership of her musical masters. This was followed by the equally successful singles “Deja Vu” and “Good 4 U,” leading to her critically acclaimed debut album, “Sour,” in May 2021. The album topped the Billboard 200 for five weeks and earned her three Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album for “Sour,” and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Drivers License.” Her second album, “Guts,” released in September 2023, continued her success, debuting atop the Billboard 200 and featuring her third number-one single, “Vampire.”
