Paramore is an American rock band that originated in Franklin, Tennessee, in 2004. The current lineup, established in 2017, features lead vocalist Hayley Williams, lead guitarist Taylor York, and drummer Zac Farro. Williams and Farro are founding members, while York, a high school friend of the original members, joined in 2007. The band’s early journey began when Hayley Williams, initially signed as a solo artist to Atlantic Records in 2003, insisted on forming a band to play alternative rock music. This led to their signing with Fueled by Ramen, a subsidiary of Atlantic Records. Their debut album, “All We Know Is Falling” (2005), reached number 30 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Chart in 2006.
The release of their second album, “Riot!” (2007), marked a turning point, achieving mainstream recognition with singles like “Misery Business,” “Crushcrushcrush,” and “That’s What You Get.” “Riot!” was certified Platinum in the US, and the band earned a Best New Artist nomination at the 2008 Grammy Awards. “Brand New Eyes” (2009) followed, reaching number two on the Billboard 200 and producing the top-forty single “The Only Exception.” Following the departure of Josh and Zac Farro in 2010, the band released their self-titled fourth album, “Paramore,” in 2013. This album gave them their first number one on the US Billboard 200 and internationally in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico. The single “Ain’t It Fun” from this album won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Song, marking Paramore’s first Grammy win.
After bassist Jeremy Davis left in 2015, Zac Farro rejoined the band in 2017. Their fifth album, “After Laughter” (2017), showcased a new wave and synth-pop sound, receiving critical acclaim. In 2023, they released “This Is Why,” their sixth studio album, which topped charts and earned two Grammy Awards: Best Rock Album and Best Alternative Music Performance for the title track. Paramore was announced as the ambassador for Record Store Day 2024, confirming their independent status after their contract with Atlantic Records.
