XCOMM arrived on the national hardcore radar fast. In April 2026, the Venice, Los Angeles band announced their debut album, Time to Burn, due May 22, 2026 through Blowed Out Records, the label founded by producer Ross Robinson, Ghostemane, and Bill Armstrong. The record was produced by Robinson and features a contribution from Ghostemane, pushing the band’s sound into crossover thrash, thrash metal, and skate punk territory.
Formed in May 2023 by drummer Revel Ian, the group took its name after Ian first considered “Excommunicado” — a term he heard in John Wick: Chapter 4 — before abbreviating it to XCOMM, short for Excommunication. He recruited friend Adan Escoto on bass, and after early lineup shifts and a hiatus, the pair regrouped, adding Michael Gatto (vocals, guitar, formerly of 2dust), Jay Vargas on guitar, and Hunter Grogan on DJ and sampler duties. Their ages range from teenagers to young adults, and they played their first live show in March 2024 in Venice, California.
The singles run tells the story of a band building momentum in real time. “Reasons” arrived September 17, 2025 and was widely cited by music publications as their debut single, despite an earlier 2024 EP called Westside Punks. The title track “Time to Burn” followed on November 11, 2025, then came “Fake ID” on January 15, 2026 — an aggressive, “80s-thrashy” chorus included — “Hot Pursuit, One and Nothing” on February 27, 2026, and “Borrowed Happiness” as the final pre-album single, all five produced by Robinson.
Writing in No Echo, Carlos Ramirez described XCOMM as “tight, loud, and heavy with ripping guitars and an intense rhythm section.” Their influences run straight through Suicidal Tendencies, Minor Threat, Discharge, and Black Flag, and their music fuses hardcore punk with 80s thrash and skate punk. Gatto, meanwhile, appears as a featured contributor on Evil Island’s upcoming supergroup album Terraform the Afterlife, scheduled for August 14, 2026.
