Abigail Dent

Born on March 4, 2002, in Kenora, Ontario, Abigail Dent embarked on her rowing career at Saint Thomas Aquinas High School and with the Kenora Rowing Club and Manitoba Rowing Club. Her early talent was evident in 2017 when she secured a bronze medal in the women’s quad sculls at the Canada Summer Games for Team Manitoba. The following year, 2018, saw further success as she won gold in both the junior women’s single sculls and the U19 women’s double sculls at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta. She represented Canada internationally at the 2019 World Rowing Junior Championships in Tokyo, where she finished sixth in the single sculls. Continuing her academic and athletic pursuits, Dent enrolled at the University of Michigan, majoring in Economics and minoring in Entrepreneurial and Small Business Operations. Her collegiate career was marked by consistent performance and leadership, including being named the Big10 Rower of the Year in 2023, the same year the Wolverines won the conference title for the second time during her tenure.

Abigail Dent’s progression in international rowing accelerated with her participation in the World Rowing U23 Championships in 2021, 2022, and 2023, achieving a fifth-place finish in the women’s four in 2023. Her senior international debut at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago was successful, earning a gold medal in the women’s eight and a silver medal in the women’s pair. In 2024, she made her World Rowing Cup debut, securing a gold medal as a member of the women’s eight at the World Rowing Cup II in Lucerne, Switzerland, where she moved into the stroke seat due to a teammate’s illness. Her career culminated in an Olympic silver medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games as part of the Canadian women’s eight. These achievements highlight her sustained commitment and ability to perform at elite levels on both collegiate and international stages.
