Abigail Leigh Spencer was born on August 4, 1981, in Gulf Breeze, Florida. She began her acting career in 1999, landing her first major television role as Rebecca ‘Becca’ Tyree on the ABC daytime soap opera “All My Children,” where she appeared until 2001. Following this, she continued to build her career with a lead role in the Lifetime crime drama series “Angela’s Eyes” in 2006. Spencer also made guest appearances in various popular television series, including “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” “How I Met Your Mother,” “Private Practice,” and “Castle.”
Spencer’s career progressed with notable recurring roles such as Miss Farrell in AMC’s “Mad Men” (2009) and Dr. Erin Jameson in TNT’s “Hawthorne” (2009–2011). From 2011 to 2019, she had a recurring role as Dana “Scottie” Scott in the USA Network legal drama “Suits.” She also garnered critical acclaim for her starring role as Amantha Holden in the SundanceTV drama series “Rectify” (2013–2016), which earned her a Critics’ Choice Television Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. In film, Spencer has appeared in productions such as “Cowboys & Aliens” (2011), “This Means War” (2012), “Oz the Great and Powerful” (2013), and “This Is Where I Leave You” (2014).
In 2016, Spencer took on the lead role of history professor Lucy Preston in the NBC science-fiction series “Timeless,” which ran for 27 episodes. Her work on “Timeless” led to a nomination for a Teen Choice Award for Choice Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actress in 2017. Beyond acting, Spencer is also a producer, co-founding Innerlight Films with Oscar-nominated director Duke Johnson. Together, they have produced acclaimed short films like “Here and Now” and “Winter Light,” and are currently involved in the upcoming feature film “The Actor.” Additionally, Spencer founded County Line Florals, a floral delivery service, in tribute to her late father.
