Akwasi Frimpong is a groundbreaking Olympian, entrepreneur, and motivational speaker, inspiring resilience and the relentless pursuit of excellence. After becoming the Dutch junior champion in the 200-meter sprint in 2003, Akwasi Frimpong secured his Dutch residency permit in 2007 and gained Dutch nationality in 2008. He then pursued an athletic scholarship at Utah Valley University (UVU) in 2008, where his contributions were instrumental in breaking the school record for the relay team during the 2010 Great West Conference Championships. The following year, in 2011, Frimpong helped the UVU 4x400m relay team win a gold medal and break the meet record at the Great West Indoor Championships.
He graduated from Utah Valley University in 2013 with honors in marketing and a minor in business management. Following his collegiate career, Frimpong transitioned to bobsledding before specializing in skeleton. In 2018, he made history by qualifying for the PyeongChang Olympics in skeleton, securing the continental representation spot for Africa. This monumental achievement established him as Ghanas first skeleton Olympian, only the country’s second Winter Olympian, and the first black male skeleton athlete in Olympic history.
