In 1997, after two previous attempts, Hobson successfully summited Mount Everest, achieving a significant personal and professional milestone. This achievement underscored his commitment and perseverance in the face of considerable challenges.
In 2000, Hobson faced a different type of challenge when he was diagnosed with acute leukemia. At the time of diagnosis, 90% of the cells in his bone marrow were cancerous, with doctors providing a 15% chance of survival. Adopting strategies similar to those used in his mountaineering pursuits, Hobson successfully navigated his cancer treatment and recovery. He has since been declared medically cured and has returned to an elite level of fitness, sharing his journey of overcoming adversity with various audiences.
His experiences have led him to become a motivational speaker and author, co-founding The Climb Back from Cancer Foundation. Hobson has published books such as “From Everest to Enlightenment: An Adventure of the Soul” and “Climb Back from Cancer: A Survivor and Caregiver’s Inspirational Journey.” He consistently highlights the parallels between mountaineering and battling a serious illness, emphasizing the importance of mental attitude, teamwork, and focusing on positive outcomes.
