Award-winning actor Algee Smith has been lighting up our screens for over a decade. Perhaps best known for his starring role in Detroit and HBO’s Euphoria, Smith is widely regarded as one of the most versatile actors of his generation. Born in Michigan and raised mostly in Atlanta, Smith launched his acting career with Nickelodeon’s How to Rock. From there, he would pick up a flurry of roles, including Disney’s Let It Shine and the sci-fi family adventure film Earth to Echo. After a series of appearances, Smith set his sights on Hollywood and relocated to Los Angeles, where he quickly booked the role of Ralph in BET’s highest-rated mini-series, The New Edition Story. As Smith continues to perfect his craft, his future in the industry is undeniably bright.
Starring in the pivotal, multi-award-winning crime-drama Detroit earned Smith wide recognition for his portrayal of Larry. Alongside his NACCP Best Actor Nomination, Smith earned an AAFCA “Best Ensemble” Award and has continued to raise the profile of the subject matter addressed in the film ever since. Fresh from his meteoric success in Detroit, Smith featured as Jake Winters in the multi-Oscar winning biographical drama, Judas and the Black Messiah. Smith’s incredible versatility and ability to create believable characters set him apart. Some of his other notable work includes Kahlil in The Hate U Give, Dante in The Infamous and Ralph in the acclaimed The Bobby Brown Story.
From screen to the recording studio, Smith’s original song, Glow, featured on Detroit’s motion picture soundtrack before releasing his groundbreaking debut EP Listen. Following his success, Smith’s next highly anticipated music project, ATL, will focus on his personal life and journey before coming to LA. With a range of projects in the works, such as sci-fi Mother/Android and drama Young, Wild and Free, Smith is forging a remarkable career.
