Algee Smith

Algee Smith IV was born on November 7, 1994, in Saginaw, Michigan. His immersion in the arts began early, with his father being an occultist and his mother a fashion designer, fostering a creative environment. At the age of eight, his family relocated to Atlanta, where he started his acting career by taking on minor television roles. This early exposure allowed him to refine his skills before moving to Los Angeles at 20 to further pursue his career in entertainment.

Smith’s career gained significant momentum with his portrayal of Ralph Tresvant in BET’s “The New Edition Story” miniseries in 2017, showcasing his acting, singing, and dancing abilities. The same year, he received critical acclaim for his role as Larry Reed in Kathryn Bigelow’s film “Detroit.” This project highlighted his dramatic range, and he also contributed vocally to the film’s soundtrack. His work continued with impactful roles, including Khalil in “The Hate U Give” (2018) and the football player Chris McKay in HBO’s drama series “Euphoria” (2019–2022), demonstrating his versatility across various genres and complex character portrayals.

In addition to his acting career, Smith is also a recording artist. He released his debut EP, “Listen,” in 2017, which featured a blend of R&B and Hip-hop. He followed this with the EP “24” in 2018 and “ATL” in 2019, alongside the mixtape “Flight Delayed” in 2018. His continuing work includes portraying Jake Winters in “Judas and the Black Messiah” (2021) and Sam in “Mother/Android” (2021), further solidifying his presence in both film and music.
