About

Amanda Hamilton was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1974. Both of her parents, Ann and Ronnie, were physical education teachers, with her father notably captaining Scotland’s volleyball team for over two decades. Her elder brother, Stewart, represented Scotland in badminton, and Amanda herself became an international-class badminton player, representing Scotland at the under-16 level. She pursued higher education at Edinburgh Napier University, earning a degree in Marketing and Communications. During her studies, she participated in a one-year exchange scholarship in the United States. Following her graduation, Hamilton began her career as a news reporter for a local television station in Colorado. Her proficiency in Spanish led her to spend a year working as a journalist in Mexico. Upon returning to the UK, she specialized in nutrition, undertaking a professional qualification. Her interest in holistic health also led her to the Himalayas, where she studied Ayurvedic medicine with a local doctor and practiced yoga.

Hamilton’s broadcasting career started with an appearance as a nutritionist on the BBC program “Should I Worry About…?” in 2006, presented by Richard Hammond. From 2005 to 2011, she co-produced and presented five series of “The Spa of Embarrassing Illnesses” for UKTV Style, which also aired on BBC Scotland. This series helped individuals address various health conditions in a spa setting and led to spin-off series like “Spa of Weight Loss for Life” and “Teen Spa of Embarrassing Illnesses.” The series rights were later acquired by US production company 44 Blue. In 2007, she was the nutritional expert alongside Professor Ian Philp in the BBC series “How to Live Longer,” guiding six volunteers toward healthier lifestyles. Her work with GMTV included co-presenting series such as “Inch Loss Island,” “Bikini Diet,” and “Little Black Dress.” In 2013, she participated as a subject in an ITV “Tonight” program called “Food Facts and Figures, the Great British Diet,” where she gained five pounds by adopting a typical British diet for a week.

Simultaneously with her media work, Hamilton established Amanda Hamilton Ltd in 2007, a company specializing in organizing and licensing health and weight-loss retreats across the United Kingdom. She has served as an ambassador for significant health initiatives, including the Scottish Executive’s Active Nation programme in 2008 and as the face of Cancer Research UK’s Great British Breakfast campaign in the same year. She also contributed as an adviser on the Scottish Government’s curriculum for excellence panel on Food & Health. Amanda is a member of the British Association of Nutritional Therapists and The Guild of Health Writers, and she is currently pursuing an MSc in Obesity Science at Robert Gordon University. She is also an author, having published “LifeDetox” (2007), “Life-Changing Weight Loss” (2008), and “Eat, Fast, Slim” (2013).
