Annette Duetz was born on June 29, 1993, in Zeddam, Netherlands. She initially pursued academic interests, studying Applied Physics at Delft University of Technology since 2011. Her sailing career began to take shape as she specialized in the 49er FX class, a high-performance skiff that requires exceptional teamwork and skill. Duetz’s dedication to both her studies and her sport laid the groundwork for her future success on the international stage.
Duetz’s Olympic journey commenced with her participation in the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics in the Skiff – 49er FX event, where she finished in seventh place alongside her then-partner Annemiek Bekkering. This experience served as a foundation for subsequent achievements. She continued to build her reputation, culminating in a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics in the 49er FX Women event. Duetz further solidified her standing in the sport by securing a gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with her new partner, Odile van Aanholt, demonstrating adaptability and sustained excellence.
Beyond her Olympic medals, Duetz has achieved significant success in World Championships and European Championships. She became a multiple-time World Champion in the 49er FX, winning gold in 2018 (Aarhus), 2019 (Auckland), 2022 (St. Margarets Bay), and 2024 (Lanzarote). Additionally, she earned a silver medal at the 2023 World Championships in The Hague. Her European Championship titles include gold medals in 2019 (Weymouth) and 2022 (Aarhus). These consistent high-level performances against global competition highlight her continued presence at the top of her discipline.
