Anthony Scaramucci was born on January 6, 1964, on Long Island, New York, in Port Washington. He is the son of Marie DeFeo Scaramucci and Alexander Scaramucci, a crane operator. As the first in his family to attend college, he graduated from Paul D. Schreiber Senior High School in 1982, where he served as student council president. He later earned a B.A. in economics from Tufts University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School. Despite his law degree, Scaramucci did not practice law, directly entering the financial sector. He began his career at Goldman Sachs in 1989 in Investment Banking. After being briefly fired and then rehired two months later in the Equities division, he became a vice president in the bank’s Private Wealth Management division in 1993.
In 1996, Scaramucci left Goldman Sachs to co-found Oscar Capital Management with Andrew Boszhardt. Oscar Capital was subsequently sold to Neuberger Berman in 2001. Following Neuberger Berman’s acquisition by Lehman Brothers in 2003, he served as a managing director in their Investment Management division. In 2005, Scaramucci founded SkyBridge Capital, a global alternative investment firm. He launched the SkyBridge Alternatives Conference, or “SALT” Conference, in 2009, which hosts annual events in Las Vegas and international events in cities like Singapore, Tokyo, and Abu Dhabi. In 2011, he received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award New York in the Financial Services category, and in 2016, he was ranked #85 in Worth magazine’s “Power 100: The 100 Most Powerful People in Global Finance.” SkyBridge also acquired the rights to “Wall Street Week” in 2014, with Scaramucci hosting before the rights were transferred to Fox Broadcasting Company in 2016.
Scaramucci stepped down from SkyBridge in January 2017 following an announced sale of a majority stake, but returned in April 2018 after the deal collapsed. He had a brief political career, serving as senior vice president and chief strategy officer for the U.S. Export–Import Bank in June 2017, before being appointed White House Communications Director in July 2017. His tenure in this role lasted 10 days, making it one of the shortest in history for that position. Since his White House departure, Scaramucci has been active in media, authoring several books, appearing on television shows, and launching new media ventures. He has also shifted his political stance, becoming critical of Donald Trump and endorsing Joe Biden in recent elections.
