Antony Daniel Costa was born on June 23, 1981, in Edgware, Middlesex, England. His early acting experiences included a role as a pupil in Steven Moffat’s sitcom “Chalk” and an appearance in the BBC children’s drama “Grange Hill.” A pivotal moment in his career came in early 2000 when he, alongside Duncan James, Lee Ryan, and Simon Webbe, formed the boy band Blue. The group quickly rose to prominence, achieving significant commercial success in the United Kingdom and internationally. Their debut single, “All Rise,” released in May 2001, reached number 4 on the UK Singles Chart. They went on to secure two number-one singles with “Too Close” and “If You Come Back” in 2001. Their debut album, “All Rise,” topped the charts and sold over 1.8 million copies in the UK. Subsequent albums, “One Love” (2002) and “Guilty” (2003), also reached number one on the UK Albums Chart, featuring collaborations with artists like Elton John and Stevie Wonder.
Following Blue’s initial hiatus, Costa pursued solo ventures and stage work. In 2005, he participated in “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!” and released his debut solo single, “Do You Ever Think of Me,” in February 2006, which peaked at number 19 on the UK Singles Chart. That same year, he competed in “Eurovision: Making Your Mind Up” with the song “It’s a Beautiful Thing.” His solo album, “Heart Full of Soul,” was released in Japan in July 2006. From 2006 to 2007, Costa took on the lead role of Mickey Johnstone in the London production of the musical “Blood Brothers.” He also toured the UK in the tenth-anniversary production of “Boogie Nights” and undertook his first solo UK tour in 2008.
The group Blue reunited and represented the United Kingdom at the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest with the song “I Can,” finishing in 11th place. They released their fourth studio album, “Roulette,” in 2013 and participated in “The Big Reunion,” a reality show where six past groups reformed for a concert series. In 2016, Costa joined the cast of the musical “Save The Last Dance For Me.” Blue continues to perform and released their sixth studio album, “Heart & Soul,” in 2022, marking over two decades in the music industry. Costa’s career has demonstrated a consistent presence in entertainment, spanning music, television, and theatrical productions.
