Ari Lehman

Ari Lehman, born on May 2, 1965, in Brooklyn, New York, is an American performing artist, composer, and actor. He spent his formative years in Westport, Connecticut, where he developed a foundation in classical and jazz piano. His musical talent was recognized early, earning him an All-State Award for Excellence in Jazz Piano and a scholarship to Berklee School of Music. Lehman’s entry into acting began when he landed the role of “Roger” in Sean S. Cunningham’s film “Manny’s Orphans” in 1978. This role proved pivotal, leading directly to his casting as the child Jason Voorhees in the iconic 1980 horror film “Friday the 13th.” In this memorable role, he played the “Boy In The Lake” who emerges in the movie’s final scene, cementing his place in horror film history.

Following his acting debut, Lehman focused on his musical education, studying Jazz Piano and Big Band Orchestration at New York University with renowned masters. His career as a musician expanded, leading him to become a touring keyboardist for prominent reggae and African music artists across the US, Europe, and West Africa. He recorded with esteemed labels such as Bob Marley’s Tuff Gong Records and Interscope Records. In 2002, after moving to Chicago, his connection to the horror genre was reignited through fan conventions. Recognizing an opportunity to merge his musical talent with his horror legacy, Lehman formed First Jason, a punk metal band tailored for fans of Jason Voorhees and “Friday the 13th.” The band has since toured extensively, performing at various horror conventions, film festivals, and music venues across the United States and Europe.

First Jason, led by Lehman as the bandleader, singer, songwriter, and keytarist, has released two albums: “Jason Is Watching!” in 2009 and “Heed My Warning” in 2013. The band’s sound blends influences from Motörhead, Misfits, Black Sabbath, and Deep Purple, catering to a dedicated fanbase within the horror and metal communities. In addition to his band work, Lehman has composed soundtracks for independent films, including Alexia Anastasio’s “Salome” and Vamp Films’ “Vampira the Movie,” which received the Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Award for Best Independent Film in 2007. His continued presence at horror conventions and his ongoing musical projects demonstrate a sustained engagement with both his cinematic legacy and his passion for music.
