About

Armand Douglas Hammer was born on August 28, 1986, in Los Angeles, California, to Dru Ann and Michael Armand Hammer. His early life involved a move to Dallas, Texas, and then to the Cayman Islands at age seven, where he lived for five years and attended Grace Christian Academy, a school founded by his father. The family later returned to Los Angeles when Hammer was thirteen. He began his acting career with small television appearances in series such as “Arrested Development,” “Veronica Mars,” “Gossip Girl,” “Reaper,” and “Desperate Housewives.” His initial film roles included a minor part in “Flicka” (2006) and a co-starring role in the psychological thriller “Blackout” (2008).

Hammer’s breakthrough came with his dual portrayal of the Winklevoss twins in David Fincher’s “The Social Network” (2010), a role that earned him critical acclaim and a Toronto Film Critics Association Award for Best Supporting Actor. Following this, he took on significant roles such as Clyde Tolson in “J. Edgar” (2011), Prince Alcott in “Mirror Mirror” (2012), and the titular role in “The Lone Ranger” (2013). In 2015, he starred as Illya Kuryakin in “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” His career progressed with acclaimed performances in films like “The Birth of a Nation” (2016) and “Nocturnal Animals” (2016). A pivotal role was Oliver in Luca Guadagnino’s “Call Me by Your Name” (2017), for which he received his first Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor, highlighting his ability to deliver complex and sensitive performances. He also voiced Jackson Storm in “Cars 3” (2017) and appeared in “Final Portrait” (2017).

In subsequent years, Hammer continued to take on notable parts, including Steve Lift in “Sorry to Bother You” (2018), David in “Hotel Mumbai” (2018), and Martin D. Ginsburg in “On the Basis of Sex” (2018), showcasing his range across various genres. He also performed on Broadway in “Straight White Men” (2018). His more recent works include the horror film “Wounds” (2019), Maxim de Winter in “Rebecca” (2020), and Jake Kelly in “Crisis” (2021). The actor faced significant career setbacks in 2021 due to public allegations, leading to his withdrawal from several projects. After a period of absence from the screen, Hammer is set to return to acting with films like “Frontier Crucible” in 2025.
