Balázs Hárai

Balázs Hárai was born on April 5, 1987, in Budapest, Hungary. He began his water polo career in youth divisions with BVSC before moving to KSI SE (men’s water polo), where he played until 2006. His senior club career commenced with Bp. Honvéd, where he secured two Hungarian Championship titles in 2005 and 2006. Hárai’s early career also included stints with Eger, winning Hungarian Cup titles in 2008 and 2009. His foundational years established him as a formidable presence in the sport, known for his role as a centre forward.

Throughout his career, Hárai became a key figure for the Hungarian national water polo team, competing in the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics. A significant achievement came in 2013 when he won a gold medal at the World Championships. He also earned a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics, showcasing his enduring capability at an elite level. His national team contributions also include a European Championship gold medal in 2020 and silver medals at the 2014 European Championship and FINA World Cup. Hárai’s consistent performance led to him being named Hungarian Water Polo Player of the Year in both 2015 and 2016.

Beyond his national team duties, Hárai continued to demonstrate strong club performance. After returning to Bp. Honvéd (2010–2012) and playing for Vasas (2012–2013), he spent a significant period with Eger again (2013–2018). From 2018 to 2024, he competed with OSC-Újbuda. In 2024, Hárai transitioned to Kaposvár. His club career is marked by multiple Hungarian Championship and Hungarian Cup victories, highlighting his impact at both national and club levels across various teams.
