Barry Horowitz

Barry Horowitz was born on March 24, 1959, in St. Petersburg, Florida. He attended Florida State University, where he studied sports nutrition and participated in amateur wrestling. He was trained in professional wrestling by Boris Malenko in Tampa, Florida, for 18 months, debuting in 1979 on the Floridian independent circuit. Early in his career, he worked for various promotions including the World Wide Wrestling Federation, Jim Crockett Sr.’s NWA Mid-Atlantic promotion, and organizations in Canada and Puerto Rico. Horowitz secured his first major title, the NWA Florida Heavyweight Championship, on July 23, 1985, by defeating Mike Graham in a tournament final. He held this title until September 2, 1985, when he lost to Kendall Windham at Battle of the Belts. He continued in CWF for two years, managed by figures such as Percy Pringle and Sir Oliver Humperdink.

Horowitz later joined the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in 1987, where he primarily served as an enhancement talent, helping elevate other wrestlers. Despite this role, he achieved multiple pinfall victories, including one over Brady Boone on July 22, 1987, and others against Lanny Poffo, David Sammartino, and Jerry Allen. He also achieved tag team victories with Steve Lombardi. In 1988, he recorded fifteen singles victories, and in 1989, he secured fourteen, notably pinning Ken Shamrock on July 29 in Greensboro, North Carolina. After a brief period with World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 1990, where he registered one victory over Tommy Angel, Horowitz moved to the Global Wrestling Federation (GWF). There, he achieved significant success, winning the GWF Light Heavyweight Championship twice in 1992, defeating Jerry Lynn on February 7 and Ben Jordan on February 28 in Dallas, Texas.

Returning to the WWF in 1991, Horowitz continued his role as an enhancement talent until a turning point in 1995. On July 9, 1995, he famously pinned Bodydonna Skip on _Wrestling Challenge_, an unexpected victory that sparked a popular underdog persona. This storyline culminated in his first pay-per-view victory against Bodydonna Skip at SummerSlam 1995. The WWF capitalized on his Jewish heritage, incorporating a Star of David into his attire and using an upbeat version of “Hava Nagila” as his entrance theme. He then formed a tag team with Hakushi, and later participated in the 1996 Royal Rumble. Horowitz returned to WCW in 1997, signing a two-year contract, and wrestled primarily on _WCW Saturday Night_. After WCW, he continued wrestling on the independent circuit in Florida until his retirement in 2003. He made a one-night return in 2013, winning the Malenko Memorial Cup Battle Royal, and again from 2022 to 2023, appearing in WrestlePro, WrestleCon, All Elite Wrestling, and Impact Wrestling.
