Bill Bailey is one of Britain’s funniest, most versatile comedians. In the classic sitcom, Black Books, on QI and Never Mind the Buzzcocks, but primarily as a stand-up comedian, Bailey has been making audiences howl with laughter for over thirty years. He has toured the world and picked up plenty of accolades along the way – including twice being named one of the greatest stand-ups of all-time. His keen interest in the natural world has also seen him present popular nature programmes and documentaries, such as Bill Bailey’s Birdwatching Bonanza and Wild Thing I Love You.
Bailey started out life as a stand-up comic. An extremely talented musician — he can play guitar and piano — he also has the rare gift of perfect pitch. Once he’d perfected his unique blend of comedy and music, his stand-up career really took off. 1999 saw him crowned Best Live Stand-Up at the British Comedy Awards and 2001 saw him set off on his first world tour. After numerous TV appearances, he made his first major television mark playing the role of Manny in Dylan Moran’s surreal Black Books. Between 2000 and 2004, the show won two BAFTAs for Best Sitcom. During this period, Bailey also became a team captain on Never Mind the Buzzcocks and regular contributor QI. He also has some straight acting roles to his name, including Doctor Who, Hustle, and Skin.
A dedicated activist for his favourite charities, Bailey is a patron of International Animal Rescue and advocates on issues regarding men’s health and feminism.
