Having participated in three Winter Olympic Games and five editions of the FIS World Championships, Canadian snowboarder Brad Martin is widely considered to be one of the country’s greatest and most experienced halfpipe riders.
Martin skied for the first time when he was just 16 months old. At the age of eight, he made the switch to snowboarding, which he found to be a lot of fun, particularly as his father and brother participated in both skateboarding and snowboarding. When he travels, Martin enjoys it when the locals take the time to show him the best places for terrific snowboarding that are still kept a secret. During the off-season, he likes to spend his time at the beach, riding dirt bikes, and surfing.
In December of 2003, in Whistler, Martin competed in the World Cup for the first time. After another year had passed, he finally earned his first podium finish in the World Cup at the same location. Martin was one of just three Canadian men to get in the top three at the world championships in the halfpipe event, and he did it by winning the bronze medal at the 2007 World Championships. In February of 2008, he won the World Cup for the first time in his career. Martin has said that he will never forget the roar of the crowd when he dropped into the pipe at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games.
