Brandon Belt

Brandon Kyle Belt was born on April 20, 1988, in Nacogdoches, Texas. He attended Hudson High School, playing as a pitcher and outfielder. The Boston Red Sox drafted him in the 11th round of the 2006 MLB draft, but he opted for college. He then attended San Jacinto College before transferring to the University of Texas, where he transitioned to first base due to shoulder issues. In 2009, during his junior season, he batted .323 with eight home runs and 43 RBI, contributing to Texas reaching the College World Series finals. In 2009, the San Francisco Giants selected Belt in the fifth round of the MLB draft. He quickly progressed through the minor league system, being named a Minor League All-Star by Baseball America and an MiLB Organization All-Star in 2010.

Belt made his MLB debut with the San Francisco Giants on March 31, 2011. Throughout his career with the Giants (2011–2022), he became a key player, contributing to World Series championship teams in 2012 and 2014. He earned an All-Star selection in 2016 and was recognized twice as National League Player of the Week (August 2013, May 2018). Notable career moments include setting an MLB record for most pitches seen in a single at-bat with 21 in 2018 and hitting a career-best 29 home runs in 2021. After 12 seasons with the Giants, he joined the Toronto Blue Jays in 2023, where he batted .254 with 19 home runs in 103 games.

Injuries were a recurring factor in Belt’s career, including a broken left thumb in 2014 and multiple concussions throughout his playing years, which sometimes limited his game appearances. He also underwent arthroscopic right knee surgery in 2022, ending his season. Beyond his playing career, Belt dedicates time to philanthropic efforts, hosting the annual Brandon Belt 100K Grand Slam charity fishing tournament to benefit The Father’s Heart of Brazil orphanage.
